Epochs and Rewards — Charts You Can Actually Read

Staking dashboards compress time into colourful bars. Here is how to translate epoch counters into calendar expectations.

Staking education stalls when charts assume you already know what an epoch feels like on a Tuesday afternoon.

Epochs are heartbeat intervals

An epoch is a batch of slots — think of it as a chapter, not a second hand. Rewards often credit at epoch boundaries, which means your calendar patience matters more than minute-by-minute watching.

Three dashboard fields to learn first

  • Commission — the validator’s stated fee share.
  • Skip rate — missed slots; high skips deserve questions.
  • Activated stake — how much is actually earning versus pending.

Compare two sources

Open two dashboards with the same validator address. If numbers diverge, note the timestamp on each page. Stale caches cause more confusion than maths.

Education, not delegation

This guide does not tell you where to stake. For mechanics and risk vocabulary, see our Validators & Staking Study session.
